TWEED as a fabric holds a fascinating duality.
On one hand, it carries the face of history — “classic,” “weighty,” “reserved for special occasions.” On the other, it has an experimental nature, with infinite possibilities depending on how the yarns are combined. What draws DOMELLE is very much the latter — a material that invites us to question and reinterpret, again and again, as we look toward the future.
Since its debut in AW23, DOMELLE has consistently introduced items made with fabrics from LINTON. This is no coincidence. TWEED itself is the symbol at the very core of our craftsmanship.
The Presence of LINTON
Founded in the early 1900s in Cumbria, England, LINTON has spent more than a century supplying its unique tweeds to some of the world’s most renowned houses, including Chanel.
What makes LINTON distinctive is that it develops its yarns in-house. Lurex, paper yarns, pom-pom yarns — seemingly incompatible fibers are boldly combined to create entirely new landscapes in weave. Rather than resting on tradition, LINTON thrives on experimentation and playfulness. That is its enduring charm, and the spirit DOMELLE deeply resonates with. We continue to choose LINTON not to borrow its history, but because we are drawn to its dignified sense of innovation.
Reinterpreting TWEED — The Origin of DOMELLE
We are often asked, “Why TWEED every season?” The answer is simple: for DOMELLE, TWEED is not just another fabric. It is the very origin of our craft.
TWEED is often seen as classic and heavy, something to be worn only on formal occasions. Its roots lie in the practical, durable — even rugged — wool culture of Britain. Yet, alongside the advancement of women in society, it has evolved into something lighter, softer, more graceful, and decorative.
Into that heritage, DOMELLE breathes “light,” “air,” and “freedom,” gently updating its classic image. Our aim is a TWEED that accompanies the everyday lives of modern women.
For example, one of the LINTON fabrics used in our WHITE series combines 55% nylon, 40% wool, 3% polyester, and 2% acrylic. Numbers alone may look clinical, but the blend creates a distinctive springy softness that shifts with every movement, catching light in new ways.
Each season, DOMELLE poses new questions to TWEED: How can different yarn textures create lightness? How does it respond to light to create movement? How can it feel tender to the skin? The answers emerge through design, tailoring, and finishing — such as painstakingly unraveling yarns by hand to form layered fringes — and each season we present a new response.
That is why DOMELLE’s TWEED remains both classic and modern. It is highly valued not only as something to be cherished on special days, but as a presence one might wish to embrace in the everyday.
AW25 — Tales of Dawn and Snow
For AW25, DOMELLE has woven two stories.
One is the SPANGLE series.
A waffle-weave tweed in black, illuminated with lurex and sequins. The inspiration behind LINTON’s development of this fabric was none other than the Hanging Gardens of Babylon, one of the Seven Wonders of the World. DOMELLE aligned this vision — rainbow sequins scattered like stars — with the image of a night sky shimmering just before dawn.
At first glance, the fabric immediately suggested a vest that could double as a mini-dress. The rough surface of the waffle texture naturally lent itself to fringes, which were then extended into jackets and skirts. Hand-unraveled double fringes and original metal buttons were added by hand. The result is a quintessential DOMELLE TWEED — classic in form, with a hint of playful spirit. To maintain shape while keeping it airy to wear, a thin lining was applied to the back.
The other is the WHITE series.
Inspired by the snowy mountains of the Alps, this pure white tweed is woven with paper yarns and pom-pom yarns, giving it a fluffy softness reminiscent of snowballs and freshly fallen snow. Crafted into relaxed silhouettes such as blousons and short vests, it brings together purity with the lightness of daily wear.
A signature of DOMELLE’s design is its sculptural form. By allowing room across the back and sleeves, a sense of ease and dignity is retained even from behind — a quality we hold central to our craft. To support this, loosely woven tweeds are reinforced with a thin lining across the reverse to maintain structure. At the same time, we pay attention to softness and lightness where the fabric touches the skin, ensuring long-lasting comfort.
Bathed in sunset light, the tweed reveals shifting brilliance, its texture reflecting the passage of time. It holds a strength that shines not only in classic settings but also in modern, urban scenes. A jacket-and-skirt set conveys refinement and practicality alike, fitting seamlessly into both on-duty and off-duty life.
DOMELLE’s distinctive sculptural silhouettes and refined tailoring add further depth — revealing beautiful shadows in movement, preserving the fabric’s innate richness while lending it an airy grace. The wearer is imbued with confidence and quiet strength.
This is not simply about “inheriting tradition.” By grounding ourselves in the aesthetics of the classic while reinterpreting it through a modern lens, we elevate tweed into something freer and more dynamic for today’s women. Formal yet supple, poised yet expressive — each piece draws out new expressions, embodying DOMELLE’s pursuit of an “evolving classic.”
The Craft of DOMELLE
At DOMELLE, making clothes begins with respect for the fabric. To honor its qualities, we never compromise on the details.
In the AW25 collection, too, panels were cut on alternate grains and fringed by hand. Fringing may be familiar to some, but its sense of luxury depends entirely on the quality of the material, the volume achieved, and the care put into the process.
This time, we used a custom “comb” made in the factory specifically for unraveling this tweed, finishing each piece one by one, and reinforcing the edges with double layers to create richness and fullness. Such painstaking work is what gives each garment its distinct sense of occasion when worn.
Our goal is not “TWEED only for special days.” It is TWEED that makes today just a little more special. Whether it’s dinner after work, an evening with friends, or a private celebration, we hope it can accompany life’s everyday moments with grace.
Through LINTON TWEED, we hope you’ve glimpsed the essence of DOMELLE’s craft. We honor tradition while always seeking new possibilities. This is what TWEED means to DOMELLE — and what defines our journey as a brand.
We will continue to bring fresh perspectives to classic materials, delivering small surprises and moments of joy to women’s wardrobes. AW26? Of course, new tweeds are on their way. But their allure does not lie only in the “latest.” Our AW23 and AW24 pieces still bring delight to many women’s lives today, proving that DOMELLE TWEED is not born to vanish with trends. It is made to thrill, even years later, the moment you slip it on.
Behind it all, there is always the hand of the artisan. From unraveling double fringes by hand to testing countless variations of linings and interlinings, every step is quiet, deliberate work. Yet this accumulation is what keeps DOMELLE’s clothes beautiful for years, ensuring that each time you wear them, they feel new once again.
What DOMELLE seeks is not a fleeting sparkle, but the joy of walking together over time. Through the medium of TWEED, we will continue to shape that enduring vision.
